I keep posting the fix for this problem. A lag or not wanting to follow the throttle, a stalling in aceleration and then finally the engine seems to kick in and it goes fine for awhile. Upon leaving the throttle back and reopening it again the dreaded lag is there as though the brakes are on. NOBODY YET HAS WELCOMED MY SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM!------The carburetor air slide and attached needle are not moving and allowing the needle to rise out of the needle jet and the slide to rise and open the air flow. In a constant velocity carburetor the throttle cable only opens an air regulating butterfly valve. The air slide and fuel jet needle are opened by vacuum.
My carb first acted up after sitting all winter without a gas stabalizer and I think that the gas and condensation corroded and varnished the parts. The best fix is to take the carb. apart and phyisicaly clean and work the moving slide.
I was lucky enough to rid myself of the problem, by adding carb & choke cleaner to the gas tank. Also I needed to spray choke cleaner directly into the carb (by removing the air cleaner) while working the throttle on a running engine!!
There is a vacuum diaphram in the top of the carb. If it is damaged a similar problem would accure.
